I’m A Uber Driver Baby!
And I Like To Write And Give Out Notes
It’s been twelve days since I gave up my factory job.
I feel good.
Great, even.
It was the right call to give it up.
I went back to Uber, and I had a good week. I made a few dollars and delivered some really cool people.
This job isn’t perfect either. Uber the Company is infuriating, and the money really isn’t that good anymore.
But, at times, it’s pretty darn fun.
I say it all the time: I meet people from all over the world—literally.
All walks of life.
Some at their best times, and some at their worst.
Some are here on business, and some are car-less.
Some are happy, and some have tears in their eyes.
I try to lift them up. Make them laugh and be silly.
I tell them how great the area is and where to go for fun and food.
I also try to inspire them. I talk about my book and give them notes of encouragement.
Last year, I started handing out these inspiring handwritten notes.
“Storms make trees take deeper roots.” —Dolly Parton
It was a hit.
Everyone enjoyed them.
Then, when I went to my factory job, I noticed everyone was negative. So, I decided to hand them out there too.
It, too, was a hit.
I found myself writing 10 to 15 a day. Picking someone different every time to deliver these messages of hope.
It was fun.
And as I wrote them, I was also helping myself, because I was burning them into my own brain.
It’s so rewardingly good.
Since leaving the job, I’ve even sent Jaylen a few by text message.
I like him very much, and I know he enjoys them.
And then last night, as I’m watching football, I get a text from Orlando:
Hey man i sure miss your lil motivational notes from time to time at work hope all is well your way 🫡
Wow! 🤩
Of course, I had to text him back with a Nick Saban quote.

Isn’t it amazing?
I wrote these simple messages, and they created such change.
It brought people together.
I don’t know what—or who—inspired me to start this journey.
Writing a book.
Blogging.
Giving away balloons—and now notes.
But somehow, it brought people together. Maybe even for life.
Maybe I needed them?
Maybe they needed me?
I don’t know.
Maybe that’s the point. 🎈
But it sure does feel right—and good.
I think I’m making a difference.
😊
