The World Keeps Looking Down.
Everywhere I go, all I see are people looking down.
We live in a world that's more connected than ever, yet somehow we've never felt more disconnected.
This morning, I was waiting on my car at the service department. As I sat down and scanned the room, I counted ten people already waiting.
Every single one of them was looking down at a phone.
I sighed.
The human experience has changed so much in such a short time.
It makes me sad.
And maybe even a little frustrated.
It really wasn't that long ago that most of us didn't even own a cell phone.
Crazy, huh?
Technology has changed so fast.
In my early twenties, you were fancy if you had a pager. Today, I can't make it an hour—much less an entire day—without my little portable device.
It happened so quickly.
Yet whenever I go somewhere, I still try to be friendly, because I enjoy the interaction.
The back and forth.
Another chance to smile.
Or even laugh.
It feels good.
But these days, it doesn't happen very often.
Not anymore.
Instead, I see ten lost souls, doom-scrolling together.
No longer do we look up and see what's right in front of us.
Because if we did, we'd discover something wonderful.
A world that still connects us all.
It's everywhere.
It's all around us.
Another chance to make a real connection.
Here's an idea.
Next time you're sitting in a room full of people...
Look up.
Break the ice.
Start a conversation.
You might realize this world is better than you thought.
I promise it's better than anything on that screen.
