Maybe It Begins with You?
I want to share something with you.
For years, I’ve listened to an audio by Larry Janesky titled Something Different.
It’s a wonderful piece, and I’ve always liked it.
The basic concept is simple:
“We need to do something different.”
— Larry Janesky
It doesn’t matter where you are on your journey.
If you want different results, you must do something different.
At the end of the audio, he shares a profound reflection about changing the world.
He says:
“The following words were written on the tomb of an Anglican bishop in the crypts of Westminster Abbey.”
Then he adds:
“Now think about this…
Somebody who lived around the year 1100 AD.
Figured this out.
So this isn’t new.”
“When I was young and free and my imagination had no limits, I dreamed of changing the world.
As I grew older and wiser, I discovered the world would not change, so I shortened my sights somewhat and decided to change only my country. But it, too, seemed immovable. As I grew into my twilight years, in one last desperate attempt, I settled for changing only my family, those closest to me — but alas, they would have none of it.
And now as I lie on my deathbed, I suddenly realize: if I had only changed myself first, then by example I would have changed my family.
From their inspiration and encouragement, I would then have been able to better my country — and, who knows, I may have even changed the world.”
— An Anglican bishop, Westminster Abbey
Then Larry closes with:
“WOW…
You can’t change other people.
You can only change yourself.”
And maybe that’s the whole truth.
Start with you.
The ripple begins there.
