May is Myositis Awareness Month
The month of May has arrived.
It’s spring. The flowers are blooming, and the weather is just about perfect.
Well… almost.
A little shower this morning.
But it’s also a time to bring awareness to a disease called Myositis.
Hi. I’m Stu—and yes, I have Myositis.
I look fine.
But I’m really not.
People see me every day and don’t realize what’s really going on. And that’s okay—I don’t want anyone feeling sorry for me.
But I’m not the only one. And truthfully, I’m one of the lucky ones.
Many people suffer every day from this invisible illness.
Maybe you see it.
Maybe you don’t.
Some use a walker.
Some use a wheelchair.
Some don’t leave the house.
Some can’t hold their head up.
Some struggle just to swallow.
You never know.
Again, I’m lucky. I’m able to go through life and hide the pain. The tiredness. The lack of energy. The physical limitations.
I look and act normal.
Most aren’t.
If you want to understand it better, I wrote about it.
Please help spread the word. Let’s talk about it.
Get involved. Donate your time—or your money.
They are all around us.
Struggling.
Living.
Fighting.
Give them a hug.
Cheer them on.
They need it.
