A Spontaneous Trip to Zion
Hello 👋 y’all.
I’ve got a lot to unpack.
I have a ton of pictures.
And of course… a story to tell.
I’ve been writing this on and off for months, trying to figure out how to unpack it all. The truth is, there’s just too much to cram into one post. So instead of forcing it, I decided to do something different.
This story is going to unfold in episodes.
Here’s how it goes:
I Wanna Go — Episode Series
The Spark
How I Did This
The Ride
The Long Way Back
Am I Thriving or Surviving?
So… let’s begin.
Episode One
The Spark
Earlier this summer, my little sister Sara and her friend Carrie told me they were going to Zion.
Immediately, I said,
“OMG.”
“I wanna go!” 😃
And without hesitation, they said,
“Get a room and a plane ticket.” 😊
That was it.
No convincing.
No long discussion.
No overthinking.
Less than two months later, the three of us were on a plane headed to Vegas for five days.
Yay!
If you’ve ever been to Vegas, then you probably know — everything is four hours from Vegas.
—Everywhere I wanna go, anyway.
And that’s the thing.
Vegas itself? It’s fine. It’s okay. But it’s not why I keep coming back.
Vegas is the gateway.
It’s the place you land so you can leave.
Zion.
Route 66.
Open roads.
Small towns.
Long drives.
That’s the pull.
This trip wasn’t about shows, casinos, or nightlife. It was about something else entirely. It was about movement. Curiosity. Saying yes. Wanting something again.
And maybe—if I’m being honest—it was about proving something to myself.
At this point, I didn’t know exactly how the trip would unfold. I didn’t know what I’d be capable of, how my body would respond, or how I’d feel on the other side of it all.
All I knew was this:
I wanted to go.
And sometimes, that’s enough to start.
