Family Fun Time
In June of 2020, I was in remission. I felt well, and I got around even better. So my family and I took an adventure to Harbor Island—just minutes from Fripp Island, South Carolina.

It’s a pretty great spot. If you’ve never been, I highly recommend it. The beaches are nice, and Hunting Island State Park is a great place to park—because most of the homes in the area aren’t beachfront, and you’ll definitely need to walk in.

There’s lots of marshland, and the year we went, there was no shortage of mosquitoes. Also, there was this strange sandstorm thing happening—like a Haboob? It was weird. The air was full of sand, and yet somehow… there was no wind. Zero. Just hot and buggy.

In South Carolina, you depend on that ocean breeze to keep you cool. Without it? Let’s just say it feels like you’re stuck inside a sweaty armpit.

But otherwise, it was a delightful week at the beach—nothing but smiles and laughter. Sure, you go for the weather, but sometimes there’s a bigger reason behind the trip.

That week, the plan was to spend time with Mom. She had been ill for a long while, yet she still made the journey to the water. It was a special time for my family. I know she enjoyed it very much—we all did.
